Some people have wondered how we determine the ratings for the products we review. I will try to answer that for you.

Normally, we rate a product anywhere from one to five stars. In exceptional cases, we give it one additional star.

6 Stars
The only products that receive six stars from us are those that display exceptional innovation or insight into the needs of the user. These products are very well thought out, implemented and useful. Additionally, they are unique in some way; they address something that hasn’t been dealt with, and do it well.

5 Stars
Products which meet the requirements above; i.e. they are well designed, well built, and serve a practical purposes, are usually the ones that receive this rating. These products may not be original in their concept - but they are exceedingly good at what they do.

4 Stars
These are generally good products. However, when we reviewed them, we may have found one or two things we disliked or thought incorrect; hence, they receive four stars.

3 Stars
These products will still be good in our opinion, but may be limited in their usefulness or functionality and could use improvement.

2 Stars
These products are what we’d consider marginal. They can/might be an acceptable alternative to a more expensive product.

1 Star
This basically translates into “You could easily do without this…”
